Background

SoCha is recruiting qualified short-term consultant to propose on a 20-month GIZ project in South Africa currently being procured using open competition. The position is contingent upon the award of the contract If SoCha wins the bid, SoCha will issue a consulting agreement for approximately 55 days over the course of 20 months to the successful candidate. 


The project will deliver evidence-informed, gender-relevant implementation of early violence prevention in South Africa with localized implementation and multi-stakeholder management. This will involve working intensively in three selected pilot sites: eThekwini Municipality (Kwa-Zulu Natal), Ekurhuleni Municipality (Gauteng), and Rustenburg (North-West Province). The project targets children aged 0-12 and their caregivers (parents, educators, social workers, etc.). The successful candidate will apply evidence-based cooperation models, engage local stakeholders, and align the project with the broader VPPIC initiative.

Short Term Process Manager 

  1. Project: Violence Prevention for Peaceful and Inclusive Communities (VPPIC) 
  2. Location: South Africa (Flexible, with travel as required; support to Team Lead and VPPIC team) 
  3. Reports to: Team Leader


Role Overview

The Short Term Process Manager will play a critical role in the initial phase of the project, managing and designing the set-up process in collaboration with the Team Lead and the VPPIC team. This expert will ensure all necessary systems and setups are in place for effective implementation across the three sites, monitor initial progress, and support financial and integration aspects. 


Key Responsibilities

  1. Manage and design the setting up process for the project in collaboration with the Team Lead and the VPPIC team. 
  2. Ensure all experts have the necessary set up to commence implementation in the three sites. 
  3. Contribute to ensuring the effective implementation of the project. 
  4. Monitor project progress and support the Team Lead with process-related matters. 
  5. Ensure the responsible use of funds and support financial planning in consultation with the GIZ officer responsible for the commission and the Team Lead. 
  6. Support the Team Lead with project integration into the VPPIC team. 


Required Qualifications and Experience

  1. Education/Training: University degree (e.g., Master's or German Diploma) in development studies, social sciences, international relations, violence prevention, gender studies, or security studies. 
  2. Language: Excellent command of English (C2 level). 
  3. General Professional Experience: At least 8 years of professional experience in managing international development projects, with a significant focus in the field of social development. 
  4. Leadership/Management Experience: At least 3 years of management experience in projects, companies, or other organizations with disciplinary leadership responsibility for 5 or more people. 
  5. International Experience: At least 2 years of professional experience in Southern Africa. 
  6. Country/Regional Experience: Not applicable. 
  7. Development Cooperation Experience: At least 6 years of experience in development cooperation projects.
